When many children think of summer, they are reminded of fun-filled summer camp experiences that include overnight camping with friends or group trips to the beach. Unfortunately, not all children can participate in a traditional summer camp to receive these life lasting memories. Fortunately, Horizons has been able to provide a fun yet affordable alternative for children in our community.
Since 2009, Horizons has provided a uniquely designed summer respite program for children in grades K through 5th grade who have been diagnosed with one or more developmental disabilities. Children are able to engage in a variety of activities such as swimming, trips to the zoo, museums, and outings to local parks, just to name a few. This year, our Summer Respite Program will operate Monday-Friday from 7:30am to 5:30pm, for 8 weeks starting in mid-June.
To keep our cost low, we are seeking the financial support of the community. Currently, we only charge families a minimal fee for their child to participate in our Summer Respite Program. This nominal fee will not cover the cost of the camp, but we feel that it is important to provide a safe, fun, and educational option for children who are not able to attend traditional summer camps.
Here are a few ways that you change the life of a child this summer:
· Sponsor a child for the entire summer for $4000
· Sponsor a child for 1 month for $2000
· Sponsor a child for 1 week for $500
· Donate $150 to provide 1 group field trip
Please take a moment and decide the best way that you can brighten the summer of a child living with disabilities this year. For more information contact Sabrina Slade at 336-767-2411.
