Leadership Winston-Salem’s Flagship Program is designed to ignite community leaders with a mission of educating, connecting, and energizing leaders to serve and improve the community. Likened to a “community MBA,” participants benefit through active engagement, attending one Program Day each month, participating in supplemental activities, and working in Action Learning teams to address an actual dilemma faced by a local agency. Action learning projects bring LWS class participants together in a collaborative team setting that fosters aspirational thinking and problem-solving. ALP teams offer a fresh set of minds and eyes that explore complex problems or potential opportunities for non-profit organizations. These individuals work together to meet specific goals that elevate how the organization impacts the community.
The project taken on for Horizons was focused on how to enhance strategy and operations around our two annual holiday events, the Fall Fest and Holiday Lane. We received templates to support and enhance event attendance, very thorough Standard Operating Procedures for planning events and concrete recommendations for improving community engagement. Our board members, development staff and CEO are all thrilled to have these tools to improve our community awareness events in the future. We plan to implement each one of them as we plan for our next event . We are excited to see what a difference this will make for Horizons and are very grateful to our LWS Action Learning Project group for sharing their insights, knowledge and talents with us.
On June 4th, we gathered at the Strickland Center at Forsyth Tech to hear the final presentation of their project to the entire Flagship class of 2025.
